Welcome to Toby's territory

Toby-the-Spaniel  2010 - 2023

Welcome to Toby the Spaniel’s page.
Toby was the co‑founder of the Pencil Workshop and the heart behind much of its inspiration. For just over 13 years he lived a full and happy life, filled with adventures, fun, and plenty of snacks. We sadly lost him in the late summer of 2023, but his memory lives on. One of his last holidays was on the Isle of Arran, where he enjoyed a glorious “wind‑in‑the‑ears” sprint along Sannox beach.

Each year Toby and I created a dog‑themed calendar, and the tradition continues. In 2024, Dougie (pronounced “Duggie”), another working cocker spaniel, joined the Pencil Workshop as our newest recruit. He’s learning fast, proving himself a real asset, and has already stepped into the role of calendar inspirer—bringing fresh energy and plenty of wagging tails to the job.

What is this? -

For many years, Toby—our much‑loved spaniel—and I created handmade Christmas gifts for family and friends. In 2018 we settled on producing dog‑themed calendars, inspired by the joys (and quirks) of dog ownership. When we lost Toby in 2023, we chose to continue the tradition, keeping his name as the calendar’s original founder.

In 2024, Dougie (pronounced “Duggie”), another working cocker spaniel, joined the Pencil Workshop as our newest team member. Still learning on the job, Dougie has already proved himself a great asset. He now serves as our official “dog experience expert,” bringing fresh inspiration to each calendar.

The Toby the Spaniel 2026 calendar is free to download and print for your own use as a complete calendar; just click on the image on the left to open up the pdf version. If you are interested in using any of the images for other purposes, do get in touch.

Printing instructions: - This calendar should print on most A4 colour printers.  Print it single sided on 13 pages of standard white A4 paper.  For a more durable/chewy calendar, print on light card.

Constructing your calendar: - After printing, gather the pages and hole-punch the top edge of the calendar where marked.  Loop string or ribbon through the punched holes to keep the pages together.  A long treasury tag through the punched holes also works well, and allows the pages to be re-ordered each month.

Disclaimer: - The Pencil Workshop is not responsible for distributing biscuits on 8th June - please ensure that you have obtained adequate stocks prior to Extra Biscuit Day.

Toby's calendars from previous years can still be downloaded...
